The brief I am working on is “Make something disappear”. The aim is to use design to eliminate waste, overproduction or excessive consumption. I started analyzing why it is important to deal with this issue and the current situation.
- What, how and why do we waste?
- Can we produce and consume making 0 waste?
- How do we deal with the waste? Is it efficient?
There is innovative technology and many existing products trying to deal with this problem so, why haven’t we seen drastic changes yet? The paper cup case caught my attention. It seems that there are re-usable cups in the market that can help cut the paper cup waste dramatically. Why this kind of product is not widely used if it can really help? Can it really help? Is it so good as it look? Considering the desk research done about the product, it seems quite good. In order to further answer these questions I now need to:
- Contact re-usable cups manufacturing companies
- Contact staff of the coffee shops
- Enquire existing and potential consumers.
- Experience the product myself.
